Electric and Fossil Fuel Fired Retorts

Mercury is native in many gold bearing ores throughout the world, and its safe removal is essential to reducing environmental impact and personnel exposure. Mercury will tag along with gold and silver throughout the entire precious metal extraction process. Prior to smelting of the doré, the mercury must be removed to prevent the low boiling point mercury from dispersing to the refinery and the environment.

Our retorts are designed as vacuum vessels which selectively remove the mercury from the gold/silver precipitate, as the last stage prior to smelting the doré. A combination of high temperature, vacuum and condensation, allows the collection and containment within a completely closed system.

The same equipment is used in the recycling industry, for parts containing mercury and fluorescent lamps.
